KeyBank USA Debuts Free Tool to Help Take the Guesswork Out of Education Borrowing

KeyBank USA is introducing a powerful PC-based planning tool to help students and their families manage the often confusing process of financing college education. KeyScape is a sophisticated, interactive program -- available on disk, CD-ROM or the Internet -- that provides college-planning and decision-making information.

KeyScape is free and designed for students and families of students who currently attend or will be attending four-year colleges. The easy and fun- to-use software guides users through the education borrowing process, from comparing financial aid offers from various schools to the step-by-step process of applying for financial aid. Families using KeyScape can even enter their own financial data to estimate the amount they are expected to contribute to the student's education. It also provides information about federal and alternative loan financing options and allows the user to apply for the Key Alternative Loan via modem.

"College financing is a complex process that most parents and students find extremely daunting," said Randy Behm, senior vice president of KeyBank USA and director of Key Education Resources, the nation's third largest education lender. "It's not surprising that many people feel overwhelmed and unprepared by the time they get down to obtaining financial aid for a student."

"KeyScape is a great alternative to reading through volumes of financial aid guidebooks, or to hours of time spent on the phone trying to obtain the right information," Behm continued. "It lets families review the whole process at their own pace, in their own home. And, it allows users to calculate potential costs and financing options using their own financial data, which helps them to be better prepared for understanding and comparing packages offered by various colleges and universities."

KeyScape is available nationwide in CD-ROM format and 3.5-inch disks for Windows or Macintosh. The software is available by calling 1-800-KEY-LEND. Families with access to the World Wide Web can download the KeyScape software from Key's web site at http://www.keybank.com/educate.htm, or through the Peterson's College Guide web site .

Key Education Resources is a leader in education financing and is dedicated to providing service, counseling, planning, guidance and ready access to funding to best serve the needs of students and their families from prep school through graduate school.
