Visioneer Portable Power for PaperPort

Visioneer, Inc. announced PaperPort PowerBar, a slim, easy-to-carry energy supply for users of Visioneer's flagship products, PaperPort Vx for Windows and PaperPort Vx for Macintosh. PaperPort Vx sheet-fed scanners coupled with PaperPort PowerBar provide a powerful solution for any kind of information processing away from the office. For example, sales professionals can complete customer invoices on the road, scan them into a portable computer, and send the invoices, complete with customer signature, to the home office via e-mail or the Internet. In addition to automating the sale and facilitating faster order entry, this process can result in quicker payment collection. The introduction of PaperPort PowerBar is the first remote scanning solution of this type on the market today.

"A growing number of users are finding the small footprint of PaperPort Vx presents a feasible solution for scanning away from the home or office," said Michael A. McConnell, president and chief executive officer of Visioneer. "Why collect reams of paper-based documents when you can simply scan them right into your portable computer? We're excited to be providing a solution that will enable completely new ways of organizing and communicating information in a mobile setting."

"The problem up until this point has been finding a power source that's powerful enough to accomplish the work and doesn't weigh too much," said Kristy Holch, president of InfoTrends Research Group of Kansas City. "PaperPort PowerBar provides a truly mobile solution that will enable a whole new category of mobile computing use."

PaperPort PowerBar is specially designed to fit the base of the PaperPort Vx sheet-fed scanner. The unit measures 12.5 by 3 inches and weighs approximately 1.5 pounds. At .75 inches high, PaperPort PowerBar is thinner than a mousepad. It is rechargeable and is capable of up to 200 scans per charge, based on a typical scanned document.

PaperPort PowerBar is expected to be available in February, 1997 and will sell for an estimated price of $89.95. It will be sold through authorized retailers, computer superstores, and mail order catalogs. PaperPort Vx for Macintosh or PaperPort Vx for Windows sells for an estimated street price of $299. Through December 31, 1996, Visioneer is giving away a free SCSI adapter with the purchase of PaperPort Vx for Macintosh. Through January, 1997 Visioneer is offering a rebate of $30 on PaperPort Vx for Windows.
