Clifford Stoll to speak at Claris Solutions Conference at San Jose Fairmont Hotel on Monday, May 12

Claris Corporation has announced that Clifford Stoll, noted author of the recent book "Silicon Snake Oil," is scheduled to appear as keynote speaker at the Claris Solutions Conference on Monday, May 12, 4 p.m. at the San Jose Fairmont, in San Jose, Calif.

Described as "refreshing"   and "provocative"   by reviewers,   "Silicon Snake Oil," is a critique of Internet culture, offering perspectives widely differing from the mass media.

No stranger to the world of computers, Stoll's credentials in this regard add much credibility to his latest book. His earlier bestseller, "The Cuckoo's Egg," describes how he tracked and caught a German spy ring operating over the Internet. Widely known as an astronomer and network aficionado, Stoll admits that though he loves the network and its community, he is also becoming deeply ambivalent about the way the Internet and computer technology in general are being oversold and overhyped.

With "Simply Better Solutions" as this year's theme, the Claris Solutions Conference, to run May 12-15,   will provide training and education for software developers, consultants, trainers and users.

Benefiting independent and in-house developers and consultants as well as users of all levels, the conference will cover   key Claris software applications, including FileMaker Pro 3.0 for Windows 95,

Windows NT, Windows 3.1 and Mac OS, Claris Home Page for Mac OS and Windows 95, Claris Emailer 2.0 for Mac OS and ClarisWorks 4.0 for Windows 95 and Mac OS. Many of the sessions will focus on how users and developers can web-enable Claris software applications.

The three-day conference will also feature a Claris Solutions Product Fair on Monday, May 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. leading custom Claris solutions available from third-party developers.

To register for the Claris Solutions Conference or for more information, interested parties may visit the Claris Solutions Conference Information and Registration web site at or call 415-566-7577 to request registration forms or additional information.
